AUSTRALIAN PODIATRY ASSOCIATION
Insurance House has had a close partnership with the Australian Podiatry Association for over four years. We spoke with CEO Nello Marino to get some feedback on the value of this partnership for its members.
As health professionals, podiatrists are required to hold medical indemnity insurance cover in order to practise – both for their own protection and for that of their patients. It is also an important part of the Association’s remit to provide support and comfort to its members if and when things go awry. For these reasons, it decided back in 2014 to assess various insurance solutions, in order to develop a partnership that would deliver the best value for its members.
“I think it’s true to say that when it comes to professional indemnity for podiatrists, Insurance House set the benchmark for cost and features, and other insurers have since followed"
Nello Marino says that the Association was looking to develop an insurance solution that would be valued by podiatrists. “Our members have a level of trust in us as their peak professional body,” he says. “As part of the benefit we deliver, we wanted to find an insurance offering in which they could also trust.”
After surveying a number of insurance solutions, the Insurance House offer was the most impressive. “I think it’s true to say that when it comes to professional indemnity for podiatrists, Insurance House set the benchmark for cost and features, and other insurers have since followed,” Nello says.
The proof has been in the pudding, with the vast majority of Association members including their medical indemnity insurance in their membership application and renewals since the scheme began in April 2015.
“The majority of our members will never need to use their insurance. But it’s essential for a number of reasons, so it’s important it’s provided by a partner you can trust.”

What makes the partnership successful?
How has the partnership with Insurance House strengthened the Australian Podiatry Association?
“From our perspective, offering a high-quality insurance scheme is another great incentive for podiatrists to become members of our Association,” Nello says. “It presents both our organisation and Insurance House in the best light.
“Another great advantage of the Insurance House scheme is that it offers a flexible range of options – such as special rates for part-time professionals and six months’ free cover for graduates. Our key priority is getting our members products of value and the level of service they need.”
Why is it important to partner with professionals you trust?
Nello Marino says he has had excellent feedback from members who have been in the unfortunate position of facing a claim.
“Insurance house has a highly professional team available at the end of the phone 24 hours a day. They understand just what you are going through as a professional when a patient makes a complaint and will give you the advice and support you need – including providing you with a legal firm that specialises in health professionals’ claims, if required.”
Nello adds that members should make their broker their very first stop in case of any issue. “Unless you’ve faced a claim before, you won’t truly value the insurance cover you have. It’s when something goes wrong that you really appreciate that all the structures are in place – with Insurance House at your back to provide the support you need.”
